Rare Opportunity: Michael Schumacher’s F1 Ferrari Up for Auction in Monterey”

The F2001b will be available for bidding on Sotheby's Sealed platform starting on August 16th at 12:00 pm PDT and concluding on August 19th at 12:00 pm PDT.

Sotheby’s is assisting in selling Schumacher’s unique Ferrari F2001b, a significant part of racing history. This exceptional car, which won the 2002 Australian Grand Prix, is being offered exclusively through Sotheby’s Sealed platform.

Chassis 215 is among the select Formula 1 cars consistently achieving top positions, providing a rare opportunity to own a modern masterpiece.

At a recent auction, Schumacher’s F2003-GA Ferrari F1 car stunned with a record-breaking sale of $14.9 million. This surpassed the previous F1 car record of $7.5 million, set in 2017 for another Schumacher Ferrari F1 car, the F2001.

Schumacher chose the F2001B for the initial two races of the 2002 season due to its improved performance and reliability.

Winning the Australian Grand Prix in this car marked Schumacher’s first victory on his way to clinching the fifth Formula 1 World Championship that year. Despite starting from fourth place, he cleverly navigated challenges, benefiting from rivals’ errors to secure a dominant third-place finish.

Schumacher anticipated closer competition in future races, showing his understanding of the rapidly changing dynamics in racing.

In the following race in Malaysia, Schumacher demonstrated resilience, recovering from a collision to finish a commendable third from a low starting position.

The F2001b boasts a 3.0-liter Tipo 050 V10 engine producing nearly 900 horsepower at 18,500rpm, paired with a seven-speed sequential gearbox controlled by an electrohydraulic system. It weighs a mere 1,323 pounds.

Enthusiasts have a chance to bid on two sought-after grand prix cars, the F2001b Chassis 215 and the 1957 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta Tour de France road car. Both cars will be showcased at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction from August 16th to 19th. The F2001b will be available for bidding on Sotheby’s Sealed platform starting on August 16th at 12:00 pm PDT and concluding on August 19th at 12:00 pm PDT.
